JUKEBOX - When were you born?

The term "jukebox" came into use in the United States around 1940, apparently derived from the familiar usage "juke joint", derived from the Gullah word "juke" or "joog" meaning disorderly, rowdy, or wicked.
"Juke joint" (or jook joint) is the vernacular term for an informal establishment featuring music, dancing, gambling, and drinking, primarily operated by African American people in the southeastern United States.
Another closely related term is "Juke house" which is a small roadside establishment in the southeastern United States where you can eat and drink and dance to music provided by a jukebox

Interesting, isn't it? Words we didn't have the foggiest idea where they come from!
Would you like to listen to the top tunes of the year your parents were born?
Ok, Here's a jukebox in the last 60 years of U.S. music that launches you to pop tunes of your year of birth.
Click on the year and follow the beat!

Get the lyrics, sing along, have just fun and get some more new expressions to enhance your cultural knowledge of the English language.

Wow... There are very good songs.
I was listening to the songs and my mom came and said, "that beautiful songs, so if it was music" Jaja...

I love the lyrics of the songs.

"And I will just say hello,
To the folks that you know,
Tell them you won't be long,
They'll be happy to know that as I saw you go
You were singing this song"

** I did not know that "folks" is a synonym for "people".

I also love this song:

-Maybe you'll sit and sigh, wishing that I were near
Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say "Maybe"

This is a fun activity where we can see the different stages that had the music.

Some songs from the early years are really unknown, but the song "The Mood", I heard in the movie "Juego de gemelas".

From the 90's I know more songs and I don't feel so uneducated :S.

The new expressions for my vocabulary bank :
lonesome
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
brighter
I wonder if you're lone some tonight
the time is here at last
Search your heart, search your soul.

My favourite songs are:
I will always love you
When a man loves a woman (but in my opinion it doesn´t very true the lyrics)
Everything I do, I do it for you
Losing my religion
& others

:D I liked this activity :D
